FIELD NOTE

Everything the county spent on Camp Ridge fits on a flat stone at the head of a scrape.

Four spent cases, stood upright, evenly spaced. The scope. The can. Henderson. The woodpile.

A rifleman’s whole ledger, counted out and left where the men he knew would come could not miss it. The miss stood as straight as the other three, because the ledger does not editorialize.

Then the camp closed its own book on the week, and the county opened a new one at midnight.

EP021 releases this weekend, Part 1 Sat, Part 2 Sun

Season 1 runs two parts to an episode. Paid subscribers get each part the day it drops. Free subscribers wait a week.

INSIDE THIS FIELD NOTE

What four days actually cost, counted in the ledger Briggs keeps and the one Reilly keeps.

What Morris did at noon on open gravel with his hat back, and how long it lasted by John’s watch. And what came out of the church speaker at midnight, on every channel at once...
