An enemy that never raises its voice has never once needed to.
The county found a torn cache at the second creek fork at first light and had a net across the corridor by nine. It never chased the boy. It closed doors, on a schedule, and let the cold do the running.
Morris has watched nets close for twenty years and had never seen one close politely.
That says less about what the enemy did than about what it is.
