Just as with so many other situations in life, the waiting itself can be just as stressful as the actual event. The evil that is breathing outside the confines of Camp Ridge is a constant reminder that unexpected things can happen when as seems to be "quiet on the western front" so to speak. Those souls within the camp can only pray and trust that although faced with uncertain times ahead, they shall overcome by the faith, trust, and a strong will to survive. Jake has matured not only as a young man,but also as a skilled warrior who can read what lies ahead and process it into a decisive plan of action, whenever is deemed necessary.
Also its hard ro predict in a world with no rules and only consequences!! This is were i think Criss Heaven is doing an absolute excellent job. Also.some may think that some of the skills people have in the story like tracking, animal trapping, alongside of psychological warfare are not common. Well, that is because they are not common, that part is true, but do they exist, yes. I was talking to a friend the other the day who lives an hour outside town and he mentions how hard it is to trap an kill skunks. “Much harder than a racoon,”…. I was like “you trap”? He replied “oh ya, otherwise they infest the property!!” I immediately asked him if he would be willing to show me, and he said yes. Aso I have a lot of knowledge he doesn't, and he has a lot that I do not. So we are gonna start swapping knowledge. Im gonna talk to him probably on our 3rd time out about creating a small prepared group if SHTF scenarios ever happened. My mom's a nurse, im training to be an EMT, he is a trapper, fisherman, and master fabricator/mechanic. My best friend is involved with “law enforcement” for lack of words, with several combat tours ta boot. Im working on a couple others that I'm vetting to see if i can trust. It's kind of a fun game, but hey why not?. It puts me that much closer to surviving the real deal. And by best friend is all about teaching me tactics…lol. Also I've soaked up as much blade work as humanly possible over the last 20years, and thats a skill im happy to have but I hope to never use. It's a cross of an Italian style with a Phillipino style of kali added to it.
Also, stuff does happen in life, how prepared are you?!?!
Something keeps getting repeated here, the word "harvest" it's being used in reference to people.
So who is harvesting people when food is barely available and most people don't even have enough for themselves?
The church? A fake but enticing sanctuary that invites desperate people in, makes them feel safe enough to lower their guard, and then they're collected by someone else?
Then there are the traders, which could explain the 40-some camps where only one apparently didn't end with someone being eaten. These men on Road 5 also have salt, which means they could preserve meat and make dried meat or jerky.
Maybe there's a fake ranch or farm somewhere, where traders exchange ammunition or supplies for meat without realizing what they're actually eating. And then there are the ones who couldn't care less, "wolves". They just want protein in meat form. The salt is simply a bonus, and they don't care about the price they pay. And by price, I mean a currency that only "wolves" would pay with.
The fake church. Possibly a fake ranch. Everything these men do could be hidden behind a false front.
What if they're using cannibalism to trade for the supplies they want, tracking the traders back to smaller camps, taking back what they traded, collecting more people, and holding them until the next "harvest"?
This sounds absolutely horrible, and I hope I'm completely wrong. But when people are starving in extreme circumstances long enough, what was once unthinkable can eventually become a warped version of normal.
Still, we do seem to know a few things: fake fronts, people being "harvested," and a well-fed army capable of obliterating whatever they want, whenever they want, or at least under a time line they build. Thirty-nine camps already involved in eating people. Maybe these men really do have a fake ranch where they trade meat to strangers. What better way to collect ammunition and gear, track traders back to a smaller camp, take it all, collect more people, and repeat the cycle?
And with 39 camps the army can trade with, they may not care where their food is coming from as long as they keep getting it.
I hope I'm wrong. Seriously. But no food is no food, starvation is a terrible way to die, and not many people would willingly watch their own children starve.

STAY SAFE friends!!!
Now we just need to get 250 million dollars to turn this into a tv series without any deviations from the story. : )
Thank you Chris for yet another excellent installment.
